Happy Birthday D!

That's right -- homemade ice cream cake.  Boo-yeah!
My first baby turned 9 years old today.  It is hard to believe he is that old and yet it seems as if he has always been a part of my life.  We are so lucky to have him in our family, and lucky that he's the big brother of all the rest of our brood.  D is a great big brother.  He is so kind and helpful  - oh my goodness the helpfulness of that kid!  He is so good to do what I ask when I ask him to do it (usually, I mean he is a kid).
He loves to read.  His favorite books right now are the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.  He also loves Boxcar Children, Garfield, Roald Dahl, National Geographic for Kids (anything they put out).
His favorite food is peanut butter and honey sandwiches.  He makes them himself now because he's so big!  I guess if a guy can fly in an airplane by himself he's big enough to make his own sandwich.  He also loves anything chocolate but doesn't care too much for caramel.
Right now his life's ambition is to become an architect.  This is a change in the last year or so.  He has spent all his life until now wanting to be a train engineer.  He's gotten into Lego's and building things.
He says his favorite part of school is recess.  That may be true but I think he really likes school.  Science, math and reading are what he really enjoys doing.  Writing, not so much.
He's a good artist and dances.  For some reason he doesn't care too much for singing.  I don't know if it is his age or what but we can't get him to sing.  We are a pretty sing-y family so this seems strange to me.  Perhaps it is a private rebellion.
D told his dad that lately he's felt drawn to learning about the Revolutionary War and Colonial times.  Thing is, when D is drawn to learn about something, he will do it of his own accord.  He is a lot like Roy in that Roy was interested in history at a young age.
D is a good bike rider and trampoline jumper.  He is creative in his play and likes to create treasure hunts and obstacle courses for his sisters and friends.
Roy and I are just so proud of this wonderful, intelligent, creative, funny, loving boy we call D-man.
